Diabetes Education in Tribal Schools (DETS) K-12 diabetes awareness curriculm

http://www3.niddk.nih.gov/fund/other/dets/index.htm

I found this great site on Diabetes education in First Nations Tribal schools.
The DETS Health Is Life in Balance curriculum has been designed to increase American Indian and Alaska Native students understanding of health, diabetes, and maintaining life in balance; to increase their understanding and application of scientific and community knowledge; and to increase interest in science and health professions among American Indian and Alaska Native youth.
Although it is American I think that this site will be very useful to me, because we don't really have a big program(k-12) like this in Canada. In my home community and in my current family diabetes is a big issue amongst First Nations people. I think a diabetes awareness curriculum like this one would also be useful in more First Nations Canadian Tribal Schools.

This is a link to a lesson plan (grades 9-12) on genetically modified foods.

School Observation

During my observation I learned that the school I was at had a garden. This garden was used for both science classes and the culinary program. I thought this combination of learning to cook in the kitchen and to use food grown in a garden outside was great because it provides nutrition, teaches hands on learning and the importance of local food. Below I have posted a link to A toolkit for high schools to grow food. This toolkit was developed in Vancouver.

Photo Editing Assignment Review

In this photo editing assignment I used Picnik and Splashup. I liked what both had to offer for editing features. I liked splashup, it seems to have alot more features than picnik. However, I thinked I like picnik more, it seemed more simple, but I liked how the editing tools were laid out.

Third Photo Edited with Splashup

For this third photo, I used splashup. The tools I used were text, free transform and noise effect(making the grainy look).

Second Photo Edited (Using Picnik)

For this second photo....I edited it with picnik. The tools I used were text, colors: saturate and temperature. I also used the sharpened tool.
